A next step that fits you

Independent doesn’t have to mean on your own.

Changing your salon base or exploring self-employment can feel like a big step. Start with where you are now — then talk through the space, practical support and commercial arrangement that could suit you.

Ways to work independently

Space, platform or
more support.

Four ways to start a conversation. From occasional chair hire to a supported salon platform, we’ll explain availability, fees, VAT and exactly what’s included before you commit.

Space only

Day-by-day chair hire

Use a salon station for a day when you need a professional base. You manage your own clients, prices, diary and business costs. Ask for the current day rate and total price including any applicable VAT.

Regular access

Membership option

A regular access arrangement may suit a stylist who wants ongoing use of the salon. The fee, access and included facilities are tailored and agreed in writing.

Salon platform

Revenue share / platform fee

A bespoke facilities and platform fee may be based on service revenue and agreed salon infrastructure, such as booking and payment systems. This is a commercial fee, not wages or commission paid by an employer.

From first hello to first client

See if it feels right.

No hard sell. Let us understand how you work and what kind of salon base you’re looking for.

01 · Tell us

Share your specialism, the days you need and what you want from a salon space.

02 · Come in

We’ll talk through how the chair works, show you the salon and answer the practical questions.

03 · Start small

Agree your days, rate and written terms before you begin. Build up only if the fit works for you.

Is this right for me?

This is for qualified professionals ready to run their own business, or people exploring what that would involve. You remain responsible for your clients, prices, schedule, insurance, tools, records and finances. There is no guaranteed income, work or client flow. If you need the stability of guaranteed hours or pay, a chair-rental or platform arrangement may not be the right step yet.

Good questions

Before you enquire.

We’ll confirm the exact terms, access and facilities for your preferred days before anything is agreed.

Will I be self-employed?

The chair is intended for independent professionals running their own businesses. You would set your own prices and schedule, manage your own client relationships and financial responsibilities. Booking and payment facilities depend on your agreed arrangement. The written agreement and the day-to-day arrangement must match that independence.

Do I need my own clients?

Tell us where you are starting from. We can discuss profile and marketing support, but we do not guarantee client referrals, a minimum amount of work or income. You remain responsible for building and running your independent business.

What do I need to bring?

Tell us what you use and what services you provide. We’ll confirm what the station includes and what you’ll need to provide yourself, including products, tools, insurance and payment arrangements.

How much does it cost to rent a chair in Bristol?

Ask us for the current day rate, VAT treatment and total cost. Regular-use membership and platform arrangements are tailored. We confirm the price, facilities and terms in writing before you agree.

How does the Freelancers Playbook work?

It provides a framework for running an independent business within a shared salon platform. Optional support may cover pricing, marketing, client experience, business planning and education, depending on your agreed package. You make your own business decisions; support is not a guarantee of earnings or clients.

Where is the salon?

At Fergal Doyle Hair, 154 Whiteladies Road, Bristol BS8 2XZ, in Clifton. Arrange a visit to see the space and discuss your requirements.

What happens after I enquire?

Your enquiry is securely saved for Fergal to review. We’ll use your chosen contact details to discuss your circumstances, availability and a possible salon visit. Enquiring does not reserve a chair or commit you to an agreement.

What self-employed hairdresser options do you offer in Bristol?

Options may include day-by-day chair hire, a facilities and platform fee based on an agreed revenue share, or a more supported Freelancers Playbook arrangement. We tailor the terms to the space and support needed and confirm them in writing.

Can I get marketing help, back bar, towels and mentorship?

These may be included in a more supported arrangement, depending on the agreed package. We’ll confirm exactly what is provided. Marketing assistance is not a promise of client bookings or earnings.
